[ACTIVE] Dramatic Dog Rescue at Smith Reservoir

West Metro Firefighters responded to Smith Reservoir, located near Kipling and Jewell in Lakewood, to a report of a dog who had fallen through the ice. The 911 call came in to West Metro Fire Dispatchers around 5:15 p.m. The dog had been in the frigid waters for almost 15 minutes before members of the West Metro Fire Dive team were able to reach him. The dog, an Argentine Mastiff named Max, was successfully rescued and reunited with his owner. A reminder to dog owners: the best way to keep dogs off the ice is a leash.

The local news media captured the coverage from a helicopter.
