West Metro's Life Safety Division ensures the community complies with the adopted 2012 International Fire Code (IFC) within our jurisdiction. The IFC is the primary document that provides guidance in how we provide a fire safe environment for the citizens of our district. The amended IFC is approved by the elected Board of Directors, in accordance with Colorado state law, as being reasonable and necessary for protecting the citizens and firefighters from the dangers associated with fire.

Duties
To ensure the IFC is properly followed, the Life Safety Division reviews plans for proposed projects and construction for compliance with the IFC. The projects must then be inspected throughout the building process to ensure the project is following appropriate codes and standards. Most importantly, the division helps ensure safety standards are met for the public and firefighters during the process.

Division and line firefighters continually perform building inspections to ensure and promote code compliance.

The IFC additionally regulates operations that are potentially hazardous to the community, like the safe and proper use and storage of hazardous materials.

The Life Safety Division is responsible for permitting and inspecting these businesses or areas to ensure they meet the accepted reasonable standards of the IFC.
