In addition to fitness testing, West Metro firefighters are scheduled to receive a medical screening through the fire department's physician at various times throughout their career. These physicals are designed to:

• Identify health problems and risks
• Screen for injuries, illnesses, and diseases
• Determine whether a member is able to perform essential job duties without undue risk of harm to self or others
• Detect changes in a member’s health that may be related to harmful working conditions
• Detect any patterns of disease in the work force that might indicate underlying work-related problems or trends

Exams are an investment in early detection and disease prevention and provide opportunities for education specific to identified risk factors.
