About the Test
The Physical Ability Test (PAT) consists of the following:
- Climb to a 6th floor landing with high-rise pack
- Descend to the third floor, and hoist approx. 50-pound bag up through the third-floor window
- Raise and lower a sandbag under control
- Drag a 1.75-inch charged hose line 75 feet and do not show water
- Drag/Pick up an approx.185-pound dummy 75 feet
- Carry a fan 150 feet and place it on a 4 foot platform
- Wear an approx. 40-pound weight vest and walk/ jog one quarter of a mile in a predetermined time
Applicants will do the events in bunker jacket and gloves while wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottle (without mask) for Section 1. Applicants will wear an approximate 40-pound vest for Section 2. You must present a completed
Physicians Release Form to be eligible to take the PAT. Forms can be completed no more that 45 days in advance.

What to Wear to the PAT:
Suggested clothing options to wear to the PAT include:
- Running shoes
- Shorts or sweat pants (loose pants)
- T-shirt (long or short sleeve)
- Gloves are optional, but will be provided if necessary
