West Metro Fire Protection District is a full service, all hazard fire and rescue agency. West Metro Fire Rescue was created in 1995 after the community voted to consolidate the Lakewood Fire Department and Bancroft Fire Protection District.

West Metro Fire Rescue is a special district government agency providing fire and rescue services to 247,648 people. We serve the City of Lakewood; Town of Morrison; parts of the cities of Golden and Wheat Ridge; parts of unincorporated Littleton/Jefferson County; and the Roxborough Communities and Waterton Canyon in Douglas County. West Metro Fire Rescue has 332 full-time firefighters who staff 15 stations over more than 110 square miles. West Metro Firefighters work a 48/96 schedule (two consecutive 24-hour shifts, followed by 96 hours off).

West Metro Fire Rescue is governed by a public-elected seven member Board of Directors that oversees the budget and establishes policy.
