Civil Service Committee

West Metro's Civil Service Committee is a group of citizen volunteers, appointed by the West Metro Board of Directors to oversee various personnel issues. The Committee is governed by state statute and is responsible for establishing standards of employment and termination, holding competitive examinations for firefighter employment, and promotion and hearing appeals.

One of the most important responsibilities of the Committee is to provide promotional examinations for all ranks. The competitive exams are the only pathway to promotion for West Metro Firefighters and are crucial to their careers. Testing is conducted every two years for each rank.

The Committee is dedicated to the goal of providing the best possible environment for the District to recruit high-quality candidates for employment, and to promote the most qualified members while ensuring fair and equitable treatment to all current and prospective employees.
