Lithium Battery Safety
Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere. In your phone, laptop, power tools, e-bikes and even your kids' toys.
They're convenient, rechargeable and generally safe when used properly. But when something goes wrong, they can overheat, catch fire and spread flames quickly.
A few simple habits can help prevent a fire:
🔋 Charge smart. Use the charger designed for your device and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
🔋 Keep it cool. Never charge devices on beds, couches or other soft surfaces that can trap heat.
🔋 Unplug when charged. Don't leave devices charging longer than necessary or while you're sleeping.
🔋 Watch for warning signs. Swelling, unusual heat, strange odors or hissing sounds can signal a failing battery. Stop using it immediately.
🔋 Don't toss batteries in the trash. Take them to an approved battery recycling or disposal location.
Take a look around your home today. Check where your devices are charging, make sure you're using the right chargers and unplug anything that's fully charged. A few small changes now can prevent a dangerous fire later.
