Thermal Fuse - Information and Request Form
Medical oxygen treatment is used by an estimated 1.5 million people in the U.S. While oxygen offers many health benefits, it can be dangerous if used near an open flame. A thermal fuse is a small device about the size of a AA battery that can make a big impact on safety.
- Thermal fuses connect to the oxygen tubing and stop the flow of oxygen in case of a fire. This prevents fire from reaching the oxygen supply.
- Thermal fuses with a bidirectional design work regardless of which direction they are installed into the oxygen tubing.
- This low-cost solution WILL NOT prevent a fire, but may reduce the risk of serious injury and property loss.
Medical oxygen creates an oxygen-rich environment, which causes things to catch fire more easily and makes fires burn faster and hotter. An increase of oxygen in the air and on clothes, furniture, hair, and bedding can make it easier for a fire to start and spread.
MAKING FIRE SAFE CHOICES
Keep smoking materials away from home oxygen. There is no safe way to smoke when oxygen is in use. This includes e- cigarettes and vaping.
*Keep oxygen cylinders at least five feet from heat sources, open flames, and electrical devices. This includes gas or woodstoves, fireplaces, candles, matches, lighters, heaters, hair dryers, and electric razors.
*Have working smoke and CO detectors in your home
*Test and maintain your detectors according to manufactures recomendations.
*Post “No Smoking” and “No Open Flames” signs inside and outside of the home.
*Thermal fuses last four years from date of manufacture and will have to be moved from cannula to cannula. Please do not throw the thermal fuses away.
