Expedited and Small Project Review Options

Plan review types and eligibility

Submittal Process – Complete the Contractor Portal Application, West Metro Fire Permit Application, and Plan and/or Cut Sheet Upload through your contractor portal in Mobile Eyes. Please read the information below before submitting your plan review application in Mobile Eyes.

Small Project Review

Small Project Reviews are intended for limited-scope projects that require minimal review time. Qualifying projects are typically reviewed within three 3) business days, depending on workload and staffing availability.

An additional non-refundable fee of $135.00 applies to all Small Project Review requests; however, the Small Project Review fee will not be assessed when the standard review queue is three (3) business days or less.

To request a Small Project Review, applicants must select the “Small Project Review Request” option on the West Metro Fire-specific permit application at the time of submittal. Projects not specifically requesting Small Project Review will be placed in the standard review queue.

West Metro Fire Rescue reserves the right to remove projects from the Small Project Review process if submittals are incomplete, unusually complex, require substantial corrections, or otherwise exceed the intended scope of the program.

Permit types that qualify for Small Project Review include:

·       Tenant Improvements — 3,600 square feet or less

·       Fire Alarm Systems — no more than 12 devices (new or relocated)

·       Fire Sprinkler Systems — no more than 20 heads (new or relocated)

o   Plans must include a statement indicating: “This scope of work does not affect the hydraulic design area.”

o   If the hydraulic design area is affected, hydraulic calculations must be provided.

·       FACP Replacement

·       Dialer Installation or Replacement

·       Kitchen Hood Systems — no more than 2 hoods

·       Underground Fire Lines

·       Access Control Systems — no more than 12 doors

·       Demo-Only Permits

·       Maintenance-Only Permits

·       Commercial Solar Photovoltaic Systems, including panel replacement

·       Backflow Devices — no more than 12

·       Radio Amplification Systems

Expedited Plan Review

Applicants may request an expedited plan review for qualifying projects; however, expedited reviews are intended primarily for periods of high review volume when the standard review queue exceeds one business week.

If the current standard review turnaround time is less than one week, projects will remain in the normal review process and expedited review fees won’t apply, as expedited processing would not provide a meaningful reduction in review time.

Expedited reviews are performed on a voluntary basis by plan review staff outside of normal work hours, and approval of an expedited request is not guaranteed. Approval is dependent on staffing availability, project complexity, and operational workload.

Expedited review fees are in addition to normal permit fees and begin at a minimum of $288.00, but may increase depending on the scope and duration of the review.

To request expedited review, select the “Expedited Review” option on the West Metro Fire-specific application during the permit submittal process.
