Jeremy Metz
Fire Chief Jeremy Metz began his career in the fire service in 1992 when he served in the Colorado Air National Guard as a firefighter and EMT. He graduated from St. Anthony's paramedic program in 1996 and began his career with West Metro Fire Rescue in 1998. At West Metro, he has held several positions, including Firefighter/Paramedic Technician, Special Teams Captain, District Chief, Division Chief for Emergency Medical Services, Deputy Chief of Administration, and Deputy Chief of Staff prior to his appointment to the role of Fire Chief.
Chief Metz has been the chair of the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Technical Committee on Special Operations Protective Clothing and Equipment since 2013.
Chief Metz is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's (NFA) Executive Fire Officer (EFO) program and has earned the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) credential from the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). He is also a graduate of the Federation of European Union (FEU) Fire Officer’s Leadership/Officer Development Program, and of the International Association of Fire Chiefs’ (IAFC) Fire Service Executive Development Institute (FSEDI).
In 2005, he received an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science from Red Rocks Community College. In 2008, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire and Emergency Services Administration from Colorado State University. And, in 2012, he received a Master of Public Administration from Columbia Southern University.
As fire chief, Chief Metz leads one of the largest fire districts and EMS providers in the state of Colorado, serving West Metro's population of approximately 300,000 citizens, covering 108 square miles. West Metro is one of only 124 agencies in the world to be an internationally accredited fire agency that also holds an ISO Class 1 rating. Chief Metz is responsible for the service delivery of all facets of life safety, fire suppression, all hazards response and the District's emergency medical response and is also the sponsoring agency chief for Colorado Task Force 1 (CO-TF1), FEMA Urban Search and Rescue.
