UPDATE: September 3, 2026

West Metro Firefighter/Paramedic Jarrod Leonard continues to make progress in his recovery from critical injuries he sustained during a training accident in July.

On September 3, Jarrod moved from a transitional care facility to a Denver-area neurological rehabilitation facility, marking the next step in his recovery. He and his wife, Monica, were escorted by West Metro Medic 16, along with the crew from Truck 14.

At the neurological rehabilitation facility, Jarrod will receive specialized care and therapy as he works toward the next milestones in his recovery.

Jarrod still has a long road ahead, but we’re glad to share that he has reached this next step.

We continue to be grateful for the support and well wishes for Jarrod and his family from our community, as well as from our fire and law enforcement partners.

Background

On July 29, West Metro crews were conducting high-angle rescue training in a steep, rocky area near Morrison, west of C-470, when Jarrod fell approximately 50 feet.

He sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Since then, Jarrod has continued moving through stages of care, from the hospital to a transitional care facility and now to neurological rehabilitation.
